It is widely agreed that motivation has a great effect on a student’s capacity to learn. Keeping students motivated during classes represents one of the greatest challenges EFL teachers encounter due to different levels of motivation, abilities to deal with the abstract and expectations depending on their age.
Assessment in Secondary Education: Modern Approaches to Supporting Student Learning
Assessment plays a fundamental role in secondary education, influencing not only the measurement of students’ academic achievement but also the quality of teaching and learning. Contemporary educational practices have gradually shifted from traditional assessment methods, focused primarily on grading and summative evaluation, towards more learner-centred approaches that emphasize continuous feedback, formative assessment and the development of lifelong learning skills. This paper examines the role of assessment in secondary education, highlighting its contribution to improving learning outcomes, fostering learner motivation and promoting critical thinking and self-regulated learning. It explores the characteristics of formative and summative assessment, alternative assessment methods and the integration of digital technologies into the evaluation process. Furthermore, the study discusses the challenges teachers face in designing fair, reliable and meaningful assessment practices. It concludes that effective assessment should be viewed not merely as a tool for measuring performance but as an essential component of the learning process that supports students’ academic, personal and social development.
Let Us Build the Exam Skills
Exams are generally associated with great anxiety and pressure; it is vital for teachers to help their students find equilibrium within themselves and develop skills meant to show students how to get used to exams. Our experience with exams can be helpful for our students when they want to prepare for an exam. It is important for teachers to teach their students how to consolidate their study habits; in this way, students are encouraged to learn in a much more efficient way.
Gamification and Student Motivation: Practical Strategies for EFL Teachers
The integration of gamification into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching has become increasingly popular as educators seek innovative ways to enhance student motivation and engagement. By incorporating game elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, challenges and rewards into classroom instruction, teachers can create dynamic learning environments that encourage active participation and improve language acquisition. This paper examines the relationship between gamification and student motivation in the EFL classroom, focusing on practical strategies that teachers can implement with teenage learners. It discusses the educational benefits of game-based learning, including increased learner engagement, enhanced vocabulary retention, improved communicative competence and greater learner autonomy. Furthermore, the paper presents practical classroom applications using digital tools and collaborative activities while also addressing potential challenges associated with gamified instruction. The study concludes that when thoughtfully integrated into communicative language teaching, gamification represents an effective pedagogical approach capable of transforming English lessons into motivating and meaningful learning experiences.
Study on BBC Learning English as a Resource for the Teen EFL Classroom
The integration of authentic digital resources into English language teaching has become increasingly important in response to the evolving educational needs of today’s learners. Teenagers, as digital natives, benefit from engaging, flexible and multimedia-rich learning environments that foster both language development and learner motivation. Among the numerous online platforms available to English teachers, BBC Learning English has established itself as a reliable and comprehensive resource offering free, high-quality materials for learners of different proficiency levels. The platform provides videos, podcasts, news-based lessons, grammar explanations, pronunciation practice, vocabulary activities and interactive quizzes that support the development of all four language skills.
Study on the Benefits of Using Kahoot! in English Language Teaching at B1-B2 Level
The integration of digital technologies into English language teaching has significantly transformed classroom practices, providing teachers with innovative tools that enhance learner engagement and improve educational outcomes. Among these tools, Kahoot! has emerged as one of the most widely used game-based learning platforms, offering interactive quizzes that promote active participation, immediate feedback and collaborative learning. This paper explores the educational benefits of using Kahoot! in English language classrooms at the B1–B2 proficiency levels, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It examines the platform’s contribution to vocabulary acquisition, grammar consolidation, reading comprehension, listening practice and learner motivation. Furthermore, the paper discusses the impact of gamification on students’ confidence, classroom interaction and formative assessment. Although certain limitations, such as technological dependence and time management, should be considered, the findings suggest that Kahoot! creates a dynamic and motivating learning environment that supports communicative competence and learner autonomy. The study concludes that integrating game-based digital tools into English language instruction can significantly enhance both teaching effectiveness and students’ overall learning experience.
