Abstract. Traditionally, the title of a literary work constituted the „summary of the summary” or the essence of the subject of that work. Literary currents imposed, in accordance with the aesthetic program of each, a certain typology of the title. In the spirit of attracting the reader’s attention to the idea of increasing the marketability of the work, but also of its intellectual challenge, some titles are represented by shocking, memorable phrases. The criteria according to which the various taxonomies of the titles of works of fiction can be made are diverse. We present the most frequently encountered ones.
This article aims to identify these criteria, as well as the categories of literary titles.
